Gilbert hopes SAG returns with open mind

Former union president applauds AFTRA-AMPTP deal

SAG president Alan Rosenberg's immediate predecessor applauded the AFTRA agreement Wednesday and said she hopes its terms aren't rejected out of hand by SAG negotiators.

"I think any opportunity for us to keep this town working is a good thing," said Melissa Gilbert, whose tenure as SAG's top elected officer included an unsuccessful push for a SAG-AFTRA merger. "I will be anxious to see how SAG handles it going forward. They were pretty quick to shoot down the DGA deal, (so) it will be interesting to see what happens now that there's an AFTRA agreement."

Essentially, AFTRA won increases in Internet compensation and other areas similar to those secured by the DGA and the WGA and also got the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers to dial down a demand that actors' consent no longer be required for the reuse of film and TV clips. But details of the consent issue and how it is addressed in the tentative contract were still the subject of debate Wednesday.

Gilbert, who recently agreed to write her memoirs for publication in spring 2009, will soon relocate to Minnesota for the summer. She will appear in a musical adaptation of the classic frontier-family TV series that launched her career, "Little House on the Prairie," at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

Gilbert said she hadn't seen many details of the AFTRA agreement but added that she thought AFTRA negotiators seemed to secure a fair pact.

"I know it was very hard-won, and there are extreme opinions on both sides, between AFTRA and the (AMPTP) and between SAG and the AMPTP," she said. "The consent issue was a hot one, and it was also a very sexy issue. But it was a very dangerous game the AMPTP was playing there for a while."

Gilbert added that she hoped the issue had been effectively resolved, as AMPTP negotiators return their attention to talks with SAG -- which, like AFTRA, has a looming contract expiration date of June 30.

"They don't have a lot of time," she said.

1 Doctor Who - episode 1: BBC1

EastEnders star glad about marriage split

'EastEnders' star Lacey Turner has revealed that she is glad that her character Stacey split from husband Bradley.
The screen couple's relationship came to an end after Bradley, played by Charlie Clements, discovered that Stacey was having an affair with his father Max (Jake Wood).
Turner said: "It sounds horrible but I never wanted her to settle down. She and Bradley were great together, and I loved working with Charlie, but I prefer Stacey when she's loud and nutty."
"She's such fun to play when she's shouting her mouth off at everyone in the Queen Vic. And she's far too young to get married."

The old frontwoman for the acclaimed indie pop jazz group Crowsdell, singer/songwriter Shannon Wright was born and embossed in Jacksonville, FL. A product of the area's prosperous all-ages tough scene, she formed Crowsdell with bassist Paul Howell and drummer Laurie Anne Wall, debuting in 1995 with the underground dearie Dreamette and shortly later relocating to New York City. However, when relations with label Big Cat soured in the wake of 1997's Within the Curve of an Arm, the group dissolved, and an embittered Wright sold most of her property and affected to rural North Carolina, where she began recording a serial of deep personal, folk-inflected songs to four-track. A handful of solo singles followed before she recorded the full-length Flightsafety, issued on Quarterstick in 1999. Maps of Tacit appeared a yr by and by. Wright released the sparse mini-LP Perishable Goods and the typically eclectic Colored in the Wool in 2001. In 2004 she place extinct the tempered and emotionally rich Over the Sun, followed by the every bit poignant Get in the Light in 2007.

Warren G denies drugs possession

Warren G, who was arrested in Hollywood over the weekend (June 8) for possession of drugs, has denied that the marijuana found in the car belonged to him.

The rapper, whose real name is Warren Griffin III was a passenger in a car that ran a red light in the early hours of Sunday morning after attending a party for Kanye West.

The car was stopped and police searched the vehicle, finding enough drugs to charge the driver, Ryan Butler, and the rapper with intent to sell.

After posting $20,000 bail each, the men were released some hours later.

Now G??s reps are saying he was a passenger in the vehicle and was asleep when they were pulled over, according to TMZ.com.

"They were in the Hollywood area for Kanye's party. He was a passenger asleep in the front seat when the car was pulled over. They charged him because he didn't debrief. Whatever was found wasn't his, it was in the car," said the statement.

Warren G rose to fame in the 90s with the hit ??Regulate??, and collaborated with fellow west coast rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
